Cannabis Methods of Consumption
Providing for almost immediate onset of effects, inhaling cannabis absorbs the active compounds, such as THC, into the bloodstream through the lungs. The most common inhalation methods are smoking and vaping.
Lighting cannabis flower and inhaling the smoke is the most popular and well-known consumption method. It encompasses pipes, water pipes (bongs), joints and blunts.
Advances in technology have led to devices that heat cannabis flower or concentrate to temperatures just below the point of combustion in order to transform active compounds into vapor. Vaping includes tabletop and portable vaporizers, vape pens and dabbing.
This easy and more discreet consumption method offers two options.
Gummies, baked goods, cannabis infused-beverages and a wide variety of edibles provide a delayed onset of 20 minutes to three hours because the cannabinoids are absorbed through the digestive tract.
A few drops placed under the tongue allows the cannabis to be absorbed sublingually and provides rapid onset of effects. Swallowing any remaining liquid results in the delayed onset of an edible.
When applying a topical, the cannabinoids are absorbed through the skin, offering localized effects. They are often used for pain, muscle soreness, psoriasis, acne, wounds, insect stings, beauty treatments and more. There aren’t any psychoactive effects when using lotions, balms, ointments and bath bombs.
