Premium cannabis infused edibles like those from Honu are a joy to the senses. The Chocolate Turtles and PB Pretzel Bites I tried are tied for #1, because both are absolutely delicious.
“Honu” is Hawaiian for “turtle.” According to legend, the Honu represent longevity, peace, good luck, humility and “the spirit within”.
Since Washington state law dictates that marijuana edibles may not exceed 10 mg of THC per serving, the edibles, which come in handy six-packs, are individually wrapped within the larger package. Honu’s kitchen team has dialed in the ratio of cannabis oil with food ingredients for dosage consistency, so that you get a sweet treat with barely noticeable cannabis taste.
And what sweet treats they are! The Chocolate Turtles are a dollop of quality milk chocolate topped with a pretzel, gooey caramel, and a scrumptious pecan for that perfect balance of sweet and salty. Before you’ve even popped one in your mouth — as soon as you unwrap the thing — an alluring sweet scent greets your nostrils, and your taste buds are delighted to join the party.
Speaking of unwrapping the treats, since Washington state regulations require each serving to be sealed in child-resistant packaging, you may want to have a pair of scissors handy to avoid frustration when getting the packages open. “Trust us — it’s worth it!” Honu advises.
The Peanut Butter Pretzel Bites are salty, bite-sized pretzels filled with peanut butter, and held together with luscious milk chocolate, and are every bit as spectacular as the Turtles.
While 10 mg is a perfectly respectable recreational dose, my tolerance is a bit higher than average, so I found about three of the treats to be in my sweet spot, dosage-wise. After three treats and about 45 minutes, I could feel the relaxing goodness radiating throughout my entire body.
You can adjust upward by having more, or downward by halving the treats, for an optimal experience.
Don’t forget to check out the rest of the Honu’s line at Uncle Ike’s, including the Dope Cup-winning Coconut Snowballs, sweet and creamy coconut truffles dipped in a rich white chocolate, rolled in raw sweetened coconut. Yes, I KNOW!
